Rising Stars Emerge at Lakmé Fashion Week 2024 : INIFD GenNext Unveils Fresh Talent

The opening day of Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI pulsed with the energy of tomorrow’s fashion icons as INIFD GenNext presented a quartet of captivating designers.

These rising stars are ready to shake up the industry with their innovative concepts and commitment to sustainable practices.

The “INIFD Presents GenNext” program stands as a beacon for talent discovery at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. In its 37th edition, this revered platform unveiled the exceptional collections of four talented designers, setting the tone for a spectacular opening day. Since its inception, over 250 designers have made a significant impact on both the national and global fashion landscapes after earning recognition through “INIFD Presents GenNext.”

This season’s event unfolded at the prestigious Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, adding grandeur to the occasion. As one of India’s premier convention and exhibition centers, the Jio World Convention Centre has become a hub for a myriad of events, boasting over 1 million sq.ft. of space. Since its launch in March 2022, the Centre has hosted over 1300 events, attracting a footfall of over 2.5 million attendees.

Sunanda Khaitan, Vice President of Lakmē, expressed excitement about the program, emphasizing its role in nurturing creativity and identifying the next generation of fashion leaders. She highlighted the resilience and innovation demonstrated by this season’s GenNext designers, aligning with Lakmē’s vision of pushing boundaries and embracing fresh perspectives in beauty and fashion.

Mr. Shaunik Khosla, Business Head of INIFD, lauded the program’s role in providing a platform for aspiring designers, both nationally and internationally. Over 30 seasons, the collaboration between INIFD and Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI has propelled over 150 GenNext winners into the limelight, showcasing their innovative designs to a global audience.

Acknowledging the invaluable support of Reliance Brand Ltd. and Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI, Mr. Khosla reiterated INIFD’s commitment to nurturing and promoting emerging designers, enriching the vibrancy and innovation of the Indian fashion industry.

Jaspreet Chandok, Group Vice President of Reliance Brands Ltd., expressed delight at the continued success of the GenNext program, which has consistently nurtured exceptional talent. He commended the program for introducing designers who have made a lasting impact on the fashion industry, both in India and globally, over the past decade.

Kriti Greta Singhee’s collection, titled “Third Space-Sustainable Future,” is a visual symphony of geometric patterns inspired by mathematical art. Flowing lines, dramatic folds, and intricate pleats come together to create garments that are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally conscious. Singhee’s use of organic, hand-woven fabrics like Phulia cotton silk from Bengal showcases her dedication to sustainable fashion, making a powerful statement in today’s fast-paced fashion landscape.

upcoming designers launch at Lakme Fashion week 2024

Rosani’s collection, aptly named “Anima and Animus,” delves into the complexities of human identity. Each element breaks the mold, challenging traditional notions of masculinity and femininity. Rosani’s designs celebrate the fluidity of self-expression, empowering individuals to embrace their unique essence.

Shimona Agrawal’s collection, “HUE: Re-Imagined for the Modern Soul,” is a love letter to both timeless style and sustainable practices. “HUE” invites a new generation to appreciate the meticulous craftsmanship behind each piece. The collection is a celebration of heritage textiles and techniques, reimagined for the modern woman who cherishes quality and timeless design.

The Terra Tribe’s collection, “INDIGENE,” takes inspiration from the vibrant cultures of indigenous African tribes and the intricate beauty of rural African mud houses. The collection reflects a nomadic spirit, blending masculine elements with feminine touches. “INDIGENE” explores cultures beyond the designer’s personal experience, resulting in a unique fusion that celebrates diversity and timeless versatility.

Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI and INIFD GenNext continue to be a breeding ground for exceptional design talent. This season’s newcomers promise to leave a lasting impression on the fashion world, offering a glimpse into the exciting future of Indian fashion.
