China’s Textile & Garment Exports Edge Up 0.9% to $66 Billion in Q1 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, China’s textile and garment industry recorded a slight but positive growth in exports. According to official trade data, the total value of textile and apparel exports reached $66 billion, marking a 0.9% increase compared to the same period last year. This modest growth comes amid ongoing global economic fluctuations and changing dynamics in international trade.

China’s textile and garment export sector remained nearly evenly split last year. Textile exports reached $33.3 billion, driven by steady demand for raw materials and intermediate goods like yarn, fabrics, and home textiles. Garment exports followed closely at $32.7 billion, reflecting a cautious rebound in global fashion and retail markets.
While growth was modest, it is notable given the tough global conditions. Rising labor costs, inflation, evolving consumer preferences, and growing competition from countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, and India have all made the market more challenging.
Despite this, China has maintained its export volume, thanks to innovation, automation, and digital upgrades. Manufacturers are shifting to high-quality and sustainable products, supported by smarter technologies like AI, supply chain software, and e-commerce platforms to boost efficiency and reach.
Exports to major markets like the US and EU remained stable, although growth slowed due to cautious spending. Meanwhile, China saw stronger demand in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, where affordable textile products remain in high demand.
China’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and global environmental standards has also strengthened its position as a trusted sourcing destination. Supportive government policies promoting green production and circular economy practices have further improved competitiveness.
Looking ahead, experts expect moderate short-term growth but remain optimistic about the long term. Continued investment in R&D, smart manufacturing, and diversifying export markets will be key to maintaining China’s leadership in global textile trade.
