Recently while I was searching the internet to find a way to make mouth-watering lemonade, I found something very interesting, ‘colour-changing’ lemonade which not only looked terrific but had tons of benefits as well. So I decided to give it a try and guess what? It worked! I actually brewed a colour changing ‘potion’ and I though why not share this happiness with my lovely readers so that they can make this colour changing lemonade as well?

So let’s dive into the Potions Class.

• So what’s the main ingredient we need to make this potion?

The main ingredient you’ll need is a flower. Yes, a flower. It is commonly known as Butterfly Pea or Asian Pigeon Wings or Blue Bell Vine or Cordofan Pea or Darwin Pea or Aparajita in Hindi or just call it Clitoria ternatea for a more scientific (or magical) touch. You can easily find the plant here in India or you can buy it from online stores. Remember that you’ll need the flowers dry before you can use it for your ‘potion’.

• What does the drink look like?

The flowers give a vibrant blue colour that looks really magical and has the amazing ability to change its colour into a magnificent purple as soon as its PH is changed by adding lemon.

You can either make a colour changing lemonade or just enjoy a terrific vibrant blue tea with tons of health benefits!

• Okay but does it tastes good?

Well…it’s a natural, so it tastes slightly earthly and woody, but it can always be improved with your creativity.

• How to make the Lemonade?

You can either buy butterfly pea flowers/powder or you can just pluck some off your plant and let them dry.

Boil some water and in accordance with your need put some handful of flowers in it and leave it for a few hours. You will see that slowly the colour of the water will change to that of a deep (or light depends upon the amount of flowers taken) blue. It will look beautiful.

Take some of the blue “magic water” and pour it on the ice tray and freeze it. Take rest of the water and add sugar according to your taste.

Pour the water in glasses and pour lemon juice according to your need and see the magic happen! The blue colour will slowly change to sparkly purple. You can add more to the magical touch by adding/decorating with edible glitter.

Now add the blue ice cubes to your purple drink and there you go, a colour changing potion with tons of health benefits for ya!
