THE SWGT LABEL BY SHWETA GUPTA CELEBRATED FIRST LOVE AT LAKMĒ FASHION WEEK 2024 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FDCI
Shweta Gupta drew her inspiration for her ‘SWGT’ label from her first edition of love. Exaggerated silhouettes intertwined with nature’s poetry in Shweta’s mesmerizing collection, “A Periwinkle Wednesday,” which was unveiled at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. Drawing inspiration from the serene embrace of the Himalayas juxtaposed with the urban hustle, Shweta’s designs spoke of a longing to reconnect with nature’s essence.
Unfolding like the pages of a romantic novel, the ensembles were a mélange of witty, poetic enchanting and frivolous touches with further hints of joy, hope heartbreak and benevolence skilfully combined. The look was at times just crisp and fluid, while bits of solid with embellishments made an appearance which has been a part of the ‘SWGT’ signature stamp.
The collection breathed life into sheer handwoven textiles adorned with intricate patterns mirroring the flora and fauna of the hills. From the majestic pines to the gentle mist of a morning, every stitch narrated a tale of wilderness. Employing techniques like hand smoking and pintucks, each garment became a canvas depicting the vivid imagery of the Himalayan landscape.
Chanderi from Central India, Mulberry silk from South India, and Linen from West India formed the soul of this collection, embodying the essence of “Make in India” craftsmanship. Through meticulous craftsmanship, Shweta’s vision of celebrating India’s diverse textile heritage came to fruition.
There was a marked control in structure and style for collars, gathered knots and textured pintucks. The quilting inspired by the periwinkle flower was executed cleverly to bring in a contrasting experience on the garments, while pleating and pin tucks created geometric textures along with hand embroidery like zardozi and 3D work that featured leaves and wild berries.
The colour card was soft with powder blue and its many shades, along with pink, ivory, black and white and the inclusion of a two-toned shimmer in gold and silver that resembled the evening sky.
The looks for the Spring/Summer 24 collection transitioned effortlessly from day to evening wear, which at times reflected Shweta’s inspiration of romance and heartbreak in a discreet form.
“A Periwinkle Wednesday” line by Shweta Gupta for her ‘SWGT’ brand brought the varying moods of love and romance to the forefront in a fashionable language, which was not only lyrical, but visually impactful.
Designer Shweta Gupta shared, “I am so thrilled to be able to show my collection at Lakmē Fashion Week X FDCI; As a GenNext Alumni, the whole fraternity is so supportive one feels right at home.”
