Adidas SPZL SS25: A Bold Celebration of Heritage and Innovation
Adidas continues to push the boundaries of heritage sportswear with the launch of its Spezial Spring/Summer 2025 (SS25) collection. Spearheaded by curator Gary Aspden, the latest SPZL line is a cinematic homage to Adidas’ storied past and an ambitious reimagination for the future.

The SS25 collection introduces six bold footwear styles, each paying tribute to archival classics while incorporating contemporary updates. Leading the lineup is the TRX Mesh SPZL, which revisits the iconic TRX silhouette with a reworked upper and a signature blue and yellow colorway that remains true to its vintage roots.
The Handball Cup SPZL fuses the best elements of 1980s handball footwear, drawing inspiration from the 1983 Handball Spezial and integrating a sleek leather overlay, a soft suede upper, and a distinctive gum rubber outsole. The Failsworth SPZL, a nod to the lesser-known Adidas Barbados model, adopts a low-profile suede structure with a T-toe construction, finished with vintage-style branding on its chocolate brown tongue.
Adding another innovative twist, the Roelee SPZL builds upon the legacy of the Adidas Whalley SPZL by combining the foxing details of the Gazelle SPZL with a reimagined Whalley upper. Meanwhile, the Pampanga SPZL, named after a province in the Philippines, revitalizes the rare archival Adidas Squire with a revamped upper and a tighter toe box.
Finally, the A Aspden SPZL introduces a fresh take on Adidas’ court shoe heritage. Inspired by the Adidas Las Palmas, this hybrid sneaker incorporates elements from 1970s tennis styles. A sentimental touch is added through the use of Gary Aspden’s late father’s signature on the shoe, a heartfelt tribute that aligns with the nostalgic yet forward-thinking essence of the SPZL collection.
The SS25 apparel lineup stays true to Adidas SPZL’s established design language, offering a mix of outerwear, sportswear, and versatile layering pieces. Leading the pack is the Halewood SPZL Parka, featuring lightweight nylon construction and a bold tonal embroidered back logo, available in forest green and black.
Furthering the collection’s relaxed yet stylish approach are the Billinge SPZL Hoodie, Brockhall SPZL Tee, and Mod SPZL Tee, which maintain the brand’s signature minimalist aesthetic. For those who appreciate sporty sophistication, the Hudswell SPZL Jacket and Shorts utilize ripstop fabrics for a contemporary, athletic look, while the Salesbury SPZL Trousers offer a tapered fit with zip pockets for added functionality. The Wardour SPZL Vest, an evolution of the sought-after Wardour jacket, brings versatility with its sleeveless gilet design and tonal ‘Mod Trefoil’ print.
No SPZL collection is complete without a carefully curated accessories range. The SS25 collection introduces the ST10 SPZL Bag and ST10 SPZL Hip Bag, both inspired by the iconic ST rain jackets. Completing the selection are the Mod Trefoil SPZL Cap and a twin pack of Mod Trefoil SPZL Socks, offering subtle yet stylish finishing touches to any outfit.
To bring the collection to life, Adidas SPZL has crafted a visually compelling campaign featuring British actor and long-time Adidas SPZL advocate James Nelson Joyce. Directed by Nick Griffiths and produced by &SON, the campaign film beautifully captures the intersection of past and present. Legendary music photographer Kevin Cummins lends his expertise to the campaign imagery, reinforcing the collection’s deep-rooted connection to cultural and sporting history.
With the Adidas SPZL SS25 collection, the brand masterfully balances nostalgia with modernity, ensuring that each piece not only honors its legacy but also sets the tone for the future of heritage sportswear.
