Lakmé Sheer Drama X Tarun Tahiliani Luxe Pret Showcase with Sobhita Dhulipala as Showstopper at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI
Lakmé, the country’s number one cosmetics brand, brought its latest make up launches – Lakmé Absolute Lip Mousse and Lakmé 9To5 CC Light Mousse to the runway in partnership with legendary designer Tarun Tahiliani. The showcase was presented on Day 2 of the ongoing Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. Bringing to life the sheer drama of these ranges, the collection was a visual delight of light textures and structured draping combined with traditional embroidery reimagined, in non-traditional sprays and settings. The luxe prêt collection was an ethereal interpretation of Lakmé’s unapologetic take on Sheer Drama – ‘As light as air, as bold as you’ integrated with the designer’s take on ‘lightness’ through the lens of fashion. Presented in a spectrum ranging from neutrals, nudes, iridescent pastels, faded metallics and bursts of red, the showcase celebrated fashion and beauty, and its role making every woman feel #UnapologeticallyMÉ.
An ode to the timeless Indian drape, the spring-summer collection essays tradition in Tarun Tahiliani’s inimitable ‘India Modern’ style, preserving the rich textile heritage and cultural identity, in a cerebral yet simple manner for the contemporary wearer. Inspired by the water motif in Tarun Tahiliani’s Collection, pianist and composer, Sahil Vasudeva lent a modern cinematic piano soundtrack to the show, performing his own composition Qinara and Lighthouse – a reimagination of Philip Glass’ works. The collection was presented in collaboration with international fashion stylist, Louw Kotze. Inspired by the ever-flowing essence of water, the drapes intuitively took form of silhouettes, playing with the hemline of desire.
The show witnessed signature Tarun Tahiliani appliques in all their glory with dreamy drapes transporting the audience to another world. Sobhita Dhulipala’s showstopping red ensemble inspired by the bold, yet light Lakmé Lip Mousse was in stark contrast to the monochromatic collection and was the highlight of this breath-taking showcase.
The aesthetics of the ‘Sheer Drama’ collection seamlessly embodied the vibrance and spirit of both the newly launched ranges. The models walked out with a flawless base with a range of rich, velvet bold mattes ranging from nudes to bright red lips, marrying the season’s trend statements seamlessly with the theme of the show. The Lakmé Absolute Lip Mousse is the latest launch from the house of Lakmé and the ultimate solution to ace the lip game. With bold pigment and a lightweight yet intensely moisturizing formula, this range delivers an effortless velvet matte finish. Available in 12 unique shades, it covers a spectrum of pinks, reds and neutrals to amp up any look. Lakmé also unveiled the Lakmé 9To5 CC Light Mousse – a light whip that blends the goodness of Vitamin E with a sheer foundation coverage. Its airy texture instantly blurs pores and evens skin tone, a one-and-done to get the no-makeup-makeup-look. Presented in 4 versatile shades, this range is a go-to for instantly flawless skin.
Commenting on the collaboration, Harman Dhillon, Vice President Skin Care & Color Cosmetics at Hindustan Unilever Limited said, “Light as air, bold as you! This was the trend statement for the season as we launched the lightweight Lakmé Lip Mousse and Lakmé CC Light Mousse, and it was seamlessly weaved into the collection, in quintessential Tarun Tahiliani style. We are proud to have partnered with Tarun Tahiliani and make-up artist Daniel Bauer, who spectacularly brought to life the sheer drama not just with the glamorous yet unapologetic Indian drape, but also complimented it with the air-light look and bold matte red velvet lip. We hope to continue to bring many more look inspired collaborations at Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI.”
Speaking about the collaboration, Designer, Tarun Tahiliani said, “I am elated to be back to Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI and bring ‘Sheer Drama’ to the runway – celebrating the spirit of women owning their true self being #UnapologeticallyMÉ. The collection is all about the drape, which is rooted firmly in the Indian identity. As it evolves into a more global instrument of sculpting fashion narratives, I now try through the structured drape, to preserve our heritage on a more cerebral level. The Indian dialogue of drape, cultural identity, and predominantly, is a fine form developing over millennia. We are simplifying it for the contemporary context, without relying on surface ornamentation. Our spring/summer collection speaks to this modernity — traditional drape suspended in time.”
Commenting on the show, this season’s celebrity makeup artist Daniel Bauer said, “The showcase went above and beyond in creating a thrilling and immersive experience for the audience. In sync with the collection were looks created with a flawless dewy base and a pop of colour to accentuate the lips. The newly launched Lakmé Absolute Lip Mousse and Lakmé 9to5 CC Light Mousse are a one and done must-have to recreate this look and have my sign off as beauty essentials.”
