Rockefeller Center Quietly Emerges as New York’s Premier Fashion Hub
In recent years, the fashion industry has faced ongoing concerns around the soaring costs and complicated logistics of New York Fashion Week. Amid these challenges, a new initiative named KFN is working to revolutionize the way fashion shows are held — by integrating revenue-generating consumer events into the mix. Among its proposed venue partners is none other than Rockefeller Center, a location already proving to be a thriving fashion ecosystem in its own right.Rockefeller Center, traditionally known for landmarks like NBC Studios, the Rainbow Room, and its world-famous skating rink, has undergone a quiet transformation. Once seen primarily as a tourist destination and media hub, the Center now boasts high-end restaurants, luxury retailers, and cultural spaces.

This evolution has naturally attracted designers seeking visually striking and logistically convenient venues for their seasonal showcases.Over the past six years, Rockefeller Center — or “Rock Center,” as it’s often affectionately called — has seen a steady increase in fashion activity. Designers have flocked to its versatile, architecturally stunning venues. This trend has been anything but accidental. Parent company Tishman Speyer and Rock Center’s leadership have worked deliberately to position the complex as a key player in New York’s fashion scene.“Rockefeller Center is a cornerstone of New York’s cultural and commercial life — a platform for today’s most innovative designers, a beloved retail destination, and a driving force in the city’s fashion landscape,” says EB Kelly, Senior Managing Director of Rockefeller Center. “With unparalleled amenities, iconic surroundings, and a built-in community of world-class tenants, it’s more than a location. It’s a platform for visionaries to make their mark.”Several prominent designers have made use of the Center’s venues. Prabal Gurung, Pamela Rolland, and LaQuan Smith have staged shows in the historic Rainbow Room, using its dramatic architecture — particularly the curved staircases and circular layout — to enhance the runway experience. The brand Eckhaus Latta and label Monse have shown collections in the Art Deco lobby of 45 Rock, while Luar’s Raul Lopez chose the Center Plaza for a memorable evening presentation.Fashion has also intersected with entertainment at the Center.
Victor Glemaud held a show at Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, complete with skating models, and Alexander Wang transformed the ice rink into a runway. Paul Andrew used it for a luxury shoe presentation, while Collina Strada’s show took place in a basement space that doubled as a party venue. Todd Snyder, returning to the runway for the first time in five years, used the upscale Le Rock restaurant — where he also designed the staff uniforms — as the venue for his Spring 2025 collection.Snyder’s relationship with Rockefeller Center runs deeper: his flagship store is located there, and he recently collaborated with fellow tenant Armando Cabral for an upcoming ad campaign. Designer Jonathan Cohen also praised the venue after presenting his Fall 2025 collection at Studio 620, a flexible, photo-studio-like space. “Our experience was amazing and streamlined,” he said. “They gave us a blank canvas and let us shoot our campaign there a week prior. Attendees loved the central location and ease of access.”In addition to well-known spaces, Rock Center includes hidden gems like Radio Park — a rooftop garden above Radio City Music Hall. Although it has yet to host a fashion show, Rock Center’s team is actively looking for the right designer to debut there. The site is also popular for editorial shoots; Ralph Lauren, for instance, filmed a holiday campaign at Top of the Rock.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has already cemented a partnership with Rockefeller Center. In September 2024, they launched a first-of-its-kind collaboration in which New York Fashion Week shows were streamed live in the Rink, open for public viewing — further blurring the lines between high fashion and accessible experience. With its growing portfolio of events and designers, Rockefeller Center is no longer just a historic New York landmark — it’s a dynamic, modern fashion hub reshaping the city’s style narrative.
