Gaurang Shah Collection Titled ‘gulal’ Wove Creative Magic At Lakme Fashion Week 2024 x FDCI
When Gaurang Shah presented his collection of artistic saris and lehengas, it was a symphony of colors at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI. The Gulal/गुलाल collection revolved around the gorgeous hues of pink in the forefront. A lover of intense colors, Gaurang’s designs were aimed at the purity, peace, and sincerity of the Spring season of Phagun.
There was a marked touch of luxurious decadence, as the beautiful weaves of India, for which the country is renowned, glided down the runway on elegantly styled models. The event took place at Jio World Convention Centre, situated at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Jio World Convention Centre is one of India’s foremost convention & exhibition centres and a leading destination for conventions, exhibitions, and social events spanning over 1 million sq.ft. Since its launch in Mar 2022, the Centre has hosted over 1300+ events and experienced a footfall of over 2.5 million.
The tradition of Jamdani and the intriguing jacquard and dobby weaves were a vision of elegance. These timeless weaves were created in hand charkha khadi, fine cotton, silk matka, and wondrous natural silks. From luxurious saris, Gaurang moved his creative skills to the lehengas, cholis, dupattas trio that have been much-loved ensembles by women for formal, as well as bridal festivities. Giving the lehengas an individualistic flavor, Gaurang revived the forgotten techniques of embroidery like Mochi, Parsi Gara, Petite Point, Kasuti, Phulkari, Kutch, and Kashmiri.
Gaurang’s designs took the audience on a journey of not only colors, weaves, elegance, craft, and beauty but also presented the return of glorious days of yesteryears when luxury was opulent but rare. The गुलाल collection by Gaurang Shah was all about a visual medley of weaves presented in a contemporary style. A team of over 24 highly trained Backstage Heroes from Lakmē Salon & Academy are exclusively creating hair and makeup looks for Gaurang Shah’s showcase.
“The versatile color ‘Gulal’ stands for purity, sincerity, and peace and is worn particularly in the Spring season of Phagun. This beautiful season brings with it infinite promise of pristine decadence,” Gaurang Shah said. Expressing unique elements of his Gulal Presentation, Gaurang expressed, “Jamdani, Jacquard, and Dobby are the dynamic weaving techniques used to create textiles in hand charkha Khadi, fine cotton, silk matka, and other natural silks. The weaves are made with virtues of patience and precision that each artisan practices while hand weaving each textile. Their emotions and traits are woven into each line.”
