Anamika Khanna Translates Her Love for Jewellery into a Stunning Debut Bag Collection
Anamika Khanna, celebrated for her intricate couture, has expanded her creative universe with the launch of her first-ever bag collection. Designed with the sensibilities of fine jewellery, the bags are crafted in brass, finished in 24k gold, and adorned with semi-precious stones like mother of pearl and emerald. Far from being fleeting trend pieces, Khanna describes them as “future heirlooms meant to last.”

Speaking with Vogue India, the designer reflected on the deeply personal nature of this new venture. Bags, she shared, had long been on her mind as a creative extension of her work. “The world is saturated with bags,” Khanna said, “and I didn’t want to add noise unless it was something meaningful.” She revealed that her clients often sought advice on accessorizing couture outfits, sparking the idea for a range that would elegantly complete a look.
Rooted firmly in Indian craftsmanship, the collection draws heavily from cultural memory and tradition, yet aims to transcend those boundaries. Khanna noted that the bags are as easily paired with denim as with a sari, embodying a fluid, versatile spirit. Each piece tells a story through meticulous detail and an unmistakably Indian soul.
The craftsmanship behind the collection is equally thoughtful. All metalwork was completed by artisans in Bengal, many of whom specialize in fine jewellery. However, Khanna emphasized that she did not restrict herself to a single technique or region, instead weaving together various crafts to best serve the vision of each piece.
