The Fashion Collective – Ace Designer Anjali Phougat Exclusive
For Anjali Phougat, fashion is not a negotiation between past and present — it is a continuum. Her work exists at the intersection of memory, craft, and contemporary form, guided by a belief that culture must be lived, not stylized.

“Indian heritage is not a trend — it is a living consciousness,” Anjali Phougat says. Every collection begins from a place of reverence: stories, rituals, craftsmanship, and spiritual symbolism passed down through generations. Once this emotional and cultural foundation is anchored, Anjali allows modern silhouettes, international tailoring, and global proportions to shape the form. “The balance comes naturally when culture is treated as soul rather than surface. I don’t modernize heritage — I let heritage evolve.”
This philosophy extends seamlessly into her approach across different design realms. Runway couture, for Anjali Phougat, is a shared emotional experience. “Runway couture is about storytelling and collective emotion. It is an artistic narrative where garments speak to one another and create a mood, a philosophy, a journey.” Each piece contributes to a larger visual and emotional arc, creating a world rather than a single statement.
Pageant design, however, demands an entirely different sensitivity. “Pageant design is deeply personal — it is about amplifying one woman’s presence, confidence, and inner power within a few transformative minutes on stage.” Here, design becomes precise and strategic. “Every line, embellishment, and movement is engineered to help her own her moment and be unforgettable.” Strength, visibility, and intention define her work in this space.

When it comes to Indian bridal wear, emotion remains Anjali’s compass. “Indian bridal wear carries sacred meaning — it is about transition, devotion, and ancestral blessings.” Rather than dilute these traditions, she refines their expression. “I preserve those emotional and cultural codes while refining the language so it speaks universally.” The craftsmanship remains deeply Indian, while structure, palette, and detailing are elevated to resonate with modern brides across geographies. Her aim is simple yet powerful: “For a bride to feel both rooted and radiant, traditional yet timeless.”
The making of her latest collection began, as many of her works do, in stillness. “Every collection begins with a quiet moment — a feeling, a prayer, a realization.” This particular body of work was born from the idea of surrender — surrender to purpose, inner wisdom, and grace. “I knew it was strong enough when every sketch felt aligned, when the artisans connected emotionally with the story, and when the garments began to feel alive even before they were finished.” For Anjali Phougat, completion is intuitive: “A collection is ready when it starts teaching you something back.”
Designing couture for milestone moments carries a gravity she deeply respects. “Designing for life-changing moments is a sacred responsibility.” She listens beyond words, attuned to what her clients carry within. “These garments are not just worn; they are remembered forever.” This awareness shapes her process with integrity, patience, and intention. “When couture becomes a vessel for emotion, it transcends fashion and becomes legacy.”
Through The Fashion Collective initiative, Fashion Herald continues to spotlight outstanding designers and creators who are shaping the future of fashion through depth, purpose, and cultural integrity.
